If you’ve been struggling with SIBO for years, you might have made the mistake of trying to be your own SIBO ‘expert’.
(that’s what I did)
I get it—when it’s difficult to find a physician in your area with experience treating SIBO, becoming your own expert sounds like a good idea, but here’s what typically happens:
90% of your attention is focused on antibiotics, supplements, adjusting your diet, and doing online research
your symptoms don’t improve much despite multiple rounds of antibiotics
your diet becomes increasingly restrictive because it’s the only thing that helps to manage your symptoms
you’ve concluded that you won’t be able to heal your SIBO until you find your ‘root cause’ (Why else wouldn’t the antibiotics have worked?)
you begin a journey of medical tests and examinations to find your root cause (endoscopy, colonoscopy, gastric emptying, mold, parasites, GI maps…), but nothing stands out as THE cause of your SIBO
you become increasingly discouraged about ever finding your root cause (and ever healing from SIBO)
you go online and seek support from others who are struggling through the same process
you become increasingly interested in ‘magic bullet’ solutions—unconventional treatments, innovative supplements, fringe physicians, etc.
all the while your stress and anxiety are going through the roof
your symptoms are getting worse (and your physician may have diagnosed you with another chronic illness)
your mental health is suffering
and your life is starting to come apart at the seams
Believe me, if DIY treatment was the golden ticket to healing SIBO, the online forums wouldn’t look like this:

Healing from SIBO requires 2 things:
Eliminating the overgrowth in your small intestine
Creating conditions that support healing of body and mind
Unfortunately, the DIY approach to treatment typically falls short on both accounts:
Antibiotic treatment is often incomplete or ineffective
There is no focused effort to create conditions that support healing
It’s my opinion that the DIY approach will fail in 90% of cases, catapulting individuals into a period of prolonged/chronic stress that makes their symptoms worse and actually creates additional illness (what I call the SIBO-Stress Conundrum):
What’s needed is a holistic approach—one that focuses on effective treatment AND supporting the body’s natural ability to heal and digest.
